Building With Purpose

December 17, 2023

As of today, Heimdall is officially 7 months old. I look back at my original designs ands ideas and feel very accomplished on how much this project has matured. In these 7 months, I have been forced to learn more than I have ever had to. I have worn every shoe possible from software engineering to marketing to sales to testing etc. As I wear each hat in this process, I feel like a toddler, but surely there were some lessons learned in every arena.

Happy Holidays!

December is a very festive time here in North Carolina and everyone is gearing up to spend a little bit of time with their friends & families. I look forward to spending some time with the family but there is much work to be done. At Heimdall, we are focused on finishing up our last release and planning for the year ahead.

Here is a list of features to look forward to in our upcoming release:

  • Bug fixes for expired authenticated sessions
  • Infrastructure & Database upgrades to allow for vertical scale
  • UI redesign with revamped product pages for marketing
  • Rollout of new Data Science product: Heimdall Checkout
  • Rollout of new Data Engineering product: Heimdall Point

We hope you enjoy these upgrades and we look forward to hearing from you with any thoughts! We welcome both positive & constructive feedback!

Special Thanks

This project has been mostly a solo venture but there has always been help to make sure things keep going. My family has been encouraging of my work and always pushing me to build more! My friends have also been very supportive of this venture. In terms of actual contributions, there have been two individuals who have spent their free time to lend me a hand in delivering the Heimdall experience.

First major shoutout to Gabriel Leo for all the promotions videos. Gabriel has made all the promotional videos associated with the Heimdall Data Science Products. I remember talking about the problem of not having a professional video to promote my first product and Gabriel jumped on board immediately to help build some videos that got my point across. Gabriel is currently a Software Engineer II at Bank of America where he works on building new digital capabilities for Bank of America's online banking platform. Check out some of his creations: Heimdall ML & Heimdall Forecast. You will see a brand new video from Gabriel with the release of Heimdall Checkout 👀

Second major shoutout to Abin Santy for help on building our some new products at Heimdall. Abin was an early supporter of the project and wanted to help write some of the code to polish up some of his Software Engineering skills. Abin is currently a senior at North Carolina State University pursuing a Bachelors in Computer Science. I challenged Abin to come up with a new Data Engineering product and he came back with Heimdall Point. He has spent a considerable amount of time building & perfecting Heimdall Point, which will be a location based Data Engineering tool.

Building with Purpose

A lot of the development for Heimdall has been product led. Even at the birth of Heimdall, it was always about just bringing automatic machine learning along with model deployment as a product. As the product matured it made sense to build tools to generate data from unstructured source. Then came forecasting. After doing some market research it was clear that certain industries like manufacturing, heavily depended on having accurate forecasts of their supply chain. Finally we wrap up the year with Heimdall Checkout which will be focused on giving product recommendations based on previous shopping cart data.

Now that there are a handful of products, it becomes clearer on the future vision of Heimdall. Heimdall will be a machine learning software infrastructure solution for engineers. Just like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Azure etc. provide infrastructure solutions for engineers to spin up virtual machines, load balances, kubernetes etc., Heimdall will allow engineers to quickly build & deploy machine learning solutions.

Another important part of Heimdall's vision is product integration. As we looking at the product roadmap for 2024, we are focused on bringing cross product integrations. We want individuals to build datasets with our engineering tools and then take those datasets to try some machine learning tasks. This will mean bridging some data gaps and adding new capabilities to Heimdall where you can build datasets and access then in the Data Science products. We believe once the above integrations are in place, we can move on to build something more social for our AI/ML enthusiasts on X.

As always, we are thankful for your continued support as this project continues to mature & develop. This year was a foundational one for Heimdall and next year will serve as major accelerator as we solidify our integrated product offerings.
